How to play 38-0-0

38-0-0 is a free Premier League team builder. You spin to draw a real club and season, draft one player into your XI, and repeat until you have a full team. At the end you find out how your dream XI would do across a 38 game season, from a relegation scrap all the way to a perfect 38 wins, 0 draws, 0 losses.

The goal

The name says it. A Premier League season is 38 games, so the dream result is 38 wins, no draws and no losses. That is the GOAT season, and it is meant to be very hard. To get there you need a top rated player in almost every position, so most teams land somewhere more realistic. Getting close is still a great result worth sharing.

Step by step

  1. Pick a mode. Choose Classic or Expert before you start (more on these below).
  2. Pick a formation. Choose one of seven shapes. This sets the eleven positions you need to fill.
  3. Spin. The reels draw a real Premier League club and a real season, for example Arsenal 2004 or Manchester City 2019.
  4. Draft a player. Pick one player from that squad and place them in a position they can play. Each player can only be used once.
  5. Repeat for all eleven rounds until every position is filled.
  6. See your season. Your projected record, points total and badge are revealed, along with your full XI.

The two modes

Classic

Every rating and stat is on show while you draft. You can see each player's overall and their six attributes (pace, shooting, passing, dribbling, defending, physical), so you can always pick the strongest option. Best if you want to chase the highest possible rating.

Expert

Ratings and stats are hidden during the draft, and the player list is sorted by position rather than by rating. You pick on football knowledge alone, then everything is revealed at the final whistle. This is the mode for people who really know their Premier League history.

Formations

You can build in any of seven shapes: 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-2-4, 3-4-3, 3-5-2, 5-3-2 and 5-4-1. A player can only go into a position they actually play, so a striker cannot fill a centre back slot. Full backs and wing backs are treated as the same family, so a left back can fill a left wing back slot and the reverse. For a breakdown of which shape suits which style, see the formations guide.

The re-spin bonus

If a spin gives you a weak draw, you can unlock one re-spin per game by watching a short ad. Use it on the round where your best available pick is weakest, since that is where it helps your average the most. The re-spin is a bonus on top of normal play, so it is a way to push for a better result rather than something you need to do well.

How your season is worked out

Your projected 38 game record is based on the overall ratings of your XI, weighted by how well each player fits the position you put them in. A stronger, well balanced team wins more games.
